The new locks in the waterway near IJmuiden cause an ingress of salt water into the river. Engineers have defined a clever solution to divert this water back to sea: Selectieve Onttrekking IJmond. Main part of the installation is formed by two massive concrete pillars, weighing 3000 metric tons each. These pillars are constructed on dry land and have been installed in the waterway by means of a floating crane.
Bespoke lifting frames have been developed and fabricated in high strength steel to attach to anchors poured into the concrete and provide an interface to the crane.
